I can understand the enthusiasm to invent and tinker. If people did not try
to improve themselves we would all be living in caves and boating on logs
with sticks for paddles.
But the beauty of the ancient kayak design is the simplicity.
A narrow boat shape that you ware around your waist.
We turn to this elemental from of transport from a machine enhanced world of
technology. We drive to the waters edge in a steel and plastic mechanized
monster (no matter now compact), pull this elegant and sample shape off the
roof. Step in and move across the sea.
It may be part illusion, the kayak is made of plastic or fiberglass, our
cloths are ploy this or that, and we tether ourselves to the tech world with
radio and GPS, but the idea, the goal for my is to strip away as much
mechanical machine as fear for safety will allow.
For the novice, acquiring skill and experience and paddling with others is
the best safety insurance.
