>I have a dictionary that defines frazile as ice that forms on the bottom of a lake. >Given that the densest water is above the freezing point and that the ice >forming will float to the top, it's unlikely that this could happen. >Mike > This is a not uncommon phenomenon in some NJ Rivers. We call it "anchor ice" because it forms on the bottom. Generally it forms at night and begins to melt once the sun hits it.... But you can often see that slush if you're early enough. One side effect of it in a running stream is that it raises the bottom a little. Then after it melts you see a waterline an inch or two above the current water level and you wonder why there was more water during the night......... *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - All postings copyright the author and not to be reproduced outside PaddleWise without author's permission Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.paddlewise.net/ ***************************************************************************Received on Mon Feb 07 2000 - 19:21:35 PST
