My thought was to do some regional meetings rather than a national get-together. It would be a start. I suggested NYC but only as a low-key regional thing. A national get-together would be probably better in some other venue. As for camping here...there was actually camping available until last year at a site across from Manhattan in a marina at reasonable prices. The camping spot was right on the water within feet of where you would leave your kayaks; it was situated in such a way that you could set your tent up so that the view of the Statue of Liberty would be framed by your tent door...the Statue was only about a mile away as the crow flies. But the site was closed down to make room for a parking lot for one of the many ferries now plying the waters of the harbor. Another approach is as suggested by some others, meeting at some of the symposiums during the year and wearing some ID tag to recognize each other. ralph diaz Gypsykayak_at_aol.com wrote: > > In a message dated 02/08/2000 3:24:41 PM Eastern Standard Time, > wiestn_at_tamug.tamu.edu writes: > > << NYC would be a nice starting point. >> > > IMHO (as another cityphobe) the only good thing about NYC is that we've > already found a sucker to volunteer to organize The First Annual Paddlewise > Convention.
