Oh I will get lots of paddling in in-between and around things.
The May event in San Francisco has a heavy paddling component built
in. And I probably will fly in a day or two early and hook up with
hooky-playing local paddlers in the area. Any one willing to put up
with me, oops I mean put me up, let me know. Also I will use the visit
to DC as an excuse to do some local paddling.

As for closer to home, I expect to get back out on the water in March as
the ice starts melting and there is plenty of paddling in April in these
parts. From next month through into June is the best paddling time in
NY and environs. The air starts getting warm and, thanks to the miracle
of newer types of cold water protective clothing, one can paddle safely
in warmer temperatures while being ready for a possible dip in the cold
blue stuff. The motorboat traffic is nil; most of the marinas don't put
boats in the water from drydock until about mid- to end-May.

Memorial Day would be a good time for a regional PaddleWise get-together
around here as Joan Volin concurs. Fourth of July is out because of
OpSail and the huge celebration expected. Basically, local waters in
the harbor will be closed to all but parade traffic for some 36 hours or
more on those days. And even the Boathouse embayment may be invaded by
moored powerboats, at least that is what is coming out of the Coast
Guard, which is likely to freeze traffic and push it off to the sides of
the river.

But we do need a national get-together someplace and one that is all our
own and not a tag-on to a symposium although those would be great too.

We also need a logo or badge. I hope someone can take up the design
issue and the production issue. I will address this in a separate post.
