Even though I'm a Pacific Northwest paddler, and therefore an "Aquashoe" kinda guy (I need the ankle support and oyster protection), I can see at least one pontential advantage to sandals: your feet get to "breath" a lot more. I find on longer trips I am very prone to Athlete's Foot (which seems unfair, since I hardly have an Athlete's body:-) I have to be careful to remove my soggy Aquashoes at lunch and whenever I'm off the water for the day, and walk around barefoot to expose my toes to air and sunlight for at least an hour a day.
