I very much want to paddle the southwestern coast of Costa Rica. Golfito and the adjoining peninsula (Oso). Delighted to read Dana's post about a Queen's ribbon in Costa Rica. Anybody have any other info that they would share with me privately or, better, with the list? I've read about conflict there (Golfito) during the past few years-- apparently a beef between landowners-- gringos and locals. Some killings. But my experience as a cycle-tourist in Northern Costa Rica a few years ago tells me that Pacific Costa Rica is very safe for lone travelers.
