I used 3M 5200 adhesive to fasten a skeg to my Arctic Hawk. This was an experimental skeg and I wasn't sure of proper placement. I was told that I could remove the skeg by cutting through it with a piece of taut piano wire heated red-hot with a propane torch. I don't know how well that would work; the size, shape and placement of the minimal skeg seems to have proved functional enough and I have't had to remove it. That was two years ago. I am interested in knowing if other paddlers have experimented with permanent, external skegs.
