setting a poor example by conducting all of these demonstrations of rolling
without a pfd? Are not those of you who expound upon the virtues of this
young man, who apparently does not wear a pfd, equally guilty of negligence
?
Or could it possibly be that, just perhaps, some exceptions do actually
exist?

 Scott,
I understand your point. I would also say this, I saw Maliquiaq
demonstrate his skills a year ago. I would say that kayaking for him is
second nature. He needs a PFD about as much as pre-European Americans needed
convenience stores.
The only "virtue" that I would expound upon would be that he did not appear
to be egotistical about his paddling abilities.
The demonstration that I watched was controlled. Small flat water pond
with an expert paddler (Cindy Cole) within ten feet, water temp low 70's,
water depth about 6 feet, thirty people on shore within thirty feet.
   Negligence in what way?
Generally speaking, I believe that there are exceptions to rules. But,
who determines the exceptions? The group or the individual? If you are in a
group, then it has to be the group.
