Re: [Paddlewise] kayak storage

Hi Allison,
We have our boats suspended by pulley systems from the garage ceiling
directly above the yak rack saddles on the car. When stowed, the boats
clear the rack by 6 inches or so. This arrangment makes it very fast and
easy to load and unload the boats to & from the car, and keeps them out of
the way (of course, I have had to learn to duck when crossing the garage).
It also allows me to lower the boats onto horses or to the floor for
repairs -- or, for simple repairs, checks of hatches, etc., I can just lower
the boats to a convenient level and hoist them up again when done.

I would imagine that your landlord will be a lot less picky about your
drilling into the joists of the garage ceiling than he would about drilling
in the apartment. As others have mentioned, spackle and a little paint will
make those holes disappear when you move.
