One point I failed to note initially was Deb's actions upon picking up the boats: she didn't check them herself, until she was on the water. Obviously a kayker of great experience, so of course she did then, but it is easier get stuff fixed nearer the shop. For years now, I have always made it a point to treat a boat prepared by someone else like a gun they had just handed me - I don't take anything for granted, and make sure it is safe myself. I cannot remember how may times I have found boats that were misrigged, missing parts, or just plain set up in such a fashion that there was no safe way I could use it. It is much easier to do this near the shop or storage place, and not on the beach. More tools, more parts closer to hand, and no time wasted running back and forth. And no temptation to carry on with a compromised boat. The same goes for rental bikes, too! Rob.
