While I love the Trangia, I have heard from several people that the mini can be problematic as it doesn't have a windscreen. This lack makes it pretty had to deal with. I think it only costs $25 or something, so it may be worth the money to mess around with and is small enough the keep as an emergency backup stove or something. For the real Trangia experience, you need the 25-5 or 27-5. I also found out that MSR is now only carrying the larger 25 series and the mini. This of course fuels my conspiracy theory that MSR is surpressing availability of the Trangia here in the US. Sure, those dealers will say demand is low for alcohol stoves, but go to your local dealer sometime and see what they try and sell you - a high-powered super jet-blower boils water is three seconds death stove. It's a cover-up I tells ya. I mean, we're paddling, how fast do you really need to boil water? And how can MSR say demand is low if no one carries the stoves in the first place? Also check out how many stove accessories and repair kits are around for the various hi-tech stoves, now look for something other than fuel bottles for the Trangia. Looking for black helicopters. -Patrick At 9:27 AM -0800 3/13/00, E. Sullivan wrote: >Trangia's website did not quote heat output. Anybody know if >the mini puts out as much as the bigger models?
