My company is in the trucking/shipping business and you can specify for "Top
Loading" which is where you place some light bulky items over a heavy
shipment like cans or beer that maxes the weight, not the cubes of the
trailer.

If it's a glass boat, I would insure it for replacement value and expect
some minor cosmetic damage.

There is a small company that specializes is boat deliveries and all the
boats are carried in special cradles. He usually works for boat
manufacturers but may have some available slots.

<<Have the boat completely wrapped in Bubble wrap and call Yellow Freight
for a quote. Have the seller drop it at the terminal and pick it up at the
terminal..much cheaper.>>

Big problems if they don't stack your boat on the top. It looks big so it
can hold a few 50-75 pound boxes, right? I'd suggest you talk with the most
local kayak sales place and see who they use or call to the other end to see
if it can be shipped by someone who knows how to do it. I was getting quotes
from Wash. state to Md and it was over $300, which I didn't think was too
bad.
