A story on the TV last night will add some light --- maybe some heat and smoke. Will take the chance. Unlike Paul's folks, these guys did not give a press conference. Late yesterday, two friends, 28 and 32, were out on Nabbs Creek, one of a gazillion local residential back waterways off --- and way off --- the Chesapeake Bay. They were in street clothes on a warm, late afternoon in a ten to 12 foot long "Styrofoam" "canoe". Some witnesses related that a powerboat came by and the wake capsized their "canoe"; the powerboater, apparently seeing this, turned back and tried to pull in the "canoeists", but they slipped away. One report had the water temperature at 42 degrees F., although that sounds a little low. In any event, the bodies were found this morning, along with the boat, which appeared undamaged, and a PFD. The two deceased were not wearing PFDs. Autopsies pending. Arrogance in this issue? Maybe. More like a lack of any sort of awareness of what cold water can do. Darwin won this one, unfortunately. <www.capitalonline.com/cgi-bin/read/live/03_24-47/TOP> for a little more detail.
