I know of a friend, of a friends, second cousins, neighbor who thought that it was befitting to launch a flair(s) during last New Years Eve festivities. Never got around to asking, because I was in no way, no way, no way, involved with this story, if the flairs were expired or not. All did not go quite as planned. The flair, a 12 guage type fired from a flair pistol, rocketed slowly skyward, and then very quickly slowed and began its descent. While its upward journey ended, the flair's illuminousity did not. It happily illuminated the entire street. The house below it was bathed in an orangey red light, or so I am told, because I was not involved nor even there. Needless to say, even though it had been raining and everything was quite wet, the person who was holding the flare gun was becoming quite nervous as it headed for the neighbors roof. Staring in horror, contemplating the location of the fire extinguisher inside the house, the flair firer watched the flair hit the roof, then bounce twice, and finally fell onto the ground where it quickly went out. I'm happy to report that the firer has admitted that it was one of the stupidest things he has done in quite some time. Still, I am surprised that the flair was so poor in its ability. The flair was only a couple of years old, and I've shot shotgun shells that were over 10 years old that worked just fine. Anyhoo, just thought I'd warn you in case there are any other pyrotechnically inclined kayakers out there that were contemplating doing the same thing in there neighborhood. Did I mention that I was not there, and was no way involved with the shenanigans portrayed in the story?
