Aww...skip the varnishing and sanding until after you paddle it awhile. 
It will give the epoxy time to fully cure.  Just don't leave it out in
the sun until after you get the varnish on.  Yeah, that's it, paddle
now, and then sand and varnish during the later spring rainstorms!
