There is an old surf fishing method that works best for cleaning gear that
has
been past down from generations of fishermen. When you get home take a
shower
with your equipment.

I do that after a pool session.

For what it is worth, I was told by a Werner rep at a show very early on
that the way to assure that a 2-piece paddle doesn't get stuck together
was to sand down the male portion slightly. I have done that to all my
paddles, very gingerly. They don't stick together at the joining point
nor are they rattlely loose either.

This is advice froth with potential disaster. If you follow it be very
careful and not too aggressive in the sanding. I also try not to leave
the paddle put together for days and days. And, when a hose presents
itself, I will wash off the ends. But the paddle half ends will often
go a half a season without seeing a lick of fresh water washing or
soaking.
