The Coast Guard was taking proposals on similar restrictions nationwide last year, but I didn't know any of the states had beaten them to the draw. >> Florida requires PFD's be worn by children six and under while aboard vessels less than twenty-six feet. Has for years. To find the regulations for a specific state visit http://www.boatsafe.com/. I wear my PFD always. My kids have been on boats since infancy, they wear PFD's. They are 14 and 12 now. I would like to think that they wear theirs because they see me wearing mine. I was doing the same Florida spring run that Steve Cramer mentioned just yesterday (I think that it was the same run, was it Juniper Springs Steve?). After an hour, I looked at the four inches of water and took the PFD off. The kids weren't with me.
