For our paddling trips, whether one day or many, Joyce and I have a Sisson
Kayaks Southern Light double. This would be best described as an expedition
double, with bow and stern compartments and a centre +ACI-hold+ACI- which takes
items like a twin burner stove, 2kg gas bottle, 4 person tent and all the
other items of comfort that have to get left at home when we go tramping.

Because of the size and weight, we tow the Southern Light on a trailer
rather than car top it.

I also have an old, ex rental, plastic single, which I paddle around
Hamilton Lake for exercise once or twice a week (while Joyce is at work).
This is transported on the Subaru roof rack.

What we are contemplating is:
1. Keeping the Southern Light for multi-day and winter trips, and buying an
Ocean Kayak Cabo for day trips in warmer weather, assuming that it will go
on the roof rack OK. Our day trips are normally in harbours/tidal estuaries,
lakes, and coastline (close to shore).

2. Replacing the battered plastic single with an Ocean Kayak Sprinter. The
Sprinter is 8kg lighter than my present single, so getting it on and off the
roof rack will be easier (as I get even older).

Any comments on either of these two Ocean Kayak models would be appreciated.
We have paddled a Malibu Two on a couple of occasions, one was for about two
hours, so we have a bit of Ocean Kayak experience.

The Ocean Kayak range are made under license in NZ (not just copied), and
price is an attraction. The Cabo is NZ+ACQ-1100, and the Sprinter NZ+ACQ-1200. For
comparison, a kevlar single costs from NZ+ACQ-3500 - +ACQ-4000, glass/kevlar doubles
NZ+ACQ-4000 - +ACQ-5500, K2 Expedition Double NZ+ACQ-7200 and Khatsalano NZ+ACQ-5800.

(One NZ dollar is worth about fifty US cents.)
