Just as I sent my post a minute ago about silly gear issues (as opposed to grand and eloquent discussions) my flu-ridden wife said there was a package in the back room for me. It was a VHF radio protective cover/case I ordered from West Marine to go with my new Standard submersible VHF. I forget who recommended this case as a good add-on to the VHF purchase, but it sure looks like a good product and should help keep the clear screen from getting scratched-up, etc. PW comes through again!
