Robert, I'm guessing your point relating to the paddle float seems to be that it can only be done in rough water by highly skilled (probably BCU- or ACA-certified) instructors. But my point is that we have taught it to hundreds of beginner and intermediate students who are able to make it work all the time, even in rough water. None of them, as far as I know, can stand up in their boats yet, but I haven't spent much time teaching them.
