While not being as good of detail as a paper topo map they do make it much easier to find where you are on the paper map. No figuring out your lat and long and then finding that ambigous point on the paper map. Just look at the rough map on the GPS and compare to your topo. This came in handy last year in the BWCA. The first day in we got nailed by a heavy thunderstorm in the afternoon. While sitting on shore watching the lightning show I was able to use the GPS to quickly determine that we were only 100 yards from a campsite. With the GPS map it was a quick comparison. The next brief break in the weather was enough to get us to camp. While not as good as a topo map they do it make it much easier to use the GPS. Speaking of which I need to get it out and play with it, I still don't know how to use it very well. :) And I need to figure out how to upload waypoints (I have the URL's of good references on the web, I just haven't done it yet).
