----- Original Message ----- From: Matt Broze "Now lets say you exited through small surf that morning and had to tighten the shock cord down so tight that you needed someone else's help to get it on that plastic kayak's coaming before you left the beach. And from recent experience you knew if you didn't have it on that tight it would pop off with the first wave that washed over the deck." Jan's response: If this was my experience, I would say that I had the wrong sprayskirt for the kayak that I was in. Greg Meyer from Great Expeditions and California Canoe & Kayak has figured out how to put a piece of tubing on the shock cord in front of the knot to make a spacer so that the rand of the sprayskirt can fit down into the groove of the cockpit coaming better. He uses a wider variety of kayaks than we do (singles & doubles) so he needs the skirts that are adjustable. We have pretty good luck with the Snapdragon "sea tour" skirts for our plastic boats and we are experimenting with some of the new Harmony skirts this year. Roger had a little trouble with skirt failure in some enormous waves when he was out playing, until he got the skirt with the implosion bar, but he can still put the implosion bar skirt on by himself. If you need help getting your sprayskirt on while you are still on the beach, if you come out of your boat, you are probably going to need help with it on the water, no matter what rescue you accomplish.
