When Doug was trying to figure out how three paddlers, each extraordinarily capable tourers in their own right, could err so badly when together, I was reminded of some of the K2 and Everest narratives. In these stories, mountaineers, many of whom are (or, sadly, were) accomplished climbers in their own right, come to grief at least in part because of flawed group dynamics. Doug, as always, thanks for your amazing candour and brutal frankness in laying out your misadventures. They are lessons to all of us, of whatever experience level, not to try to "tough it out" when our guts are telling us something's amiss.
