<<What about the rest of you? I know many others on this list have spent
weeks
as a twosome (the Dempseys, for instance) or a fewsome, anyway. What changes
for you?>>

I have no solo experience kayaking, but I've soloed for as long as 16 days at
a time in Patagonia and Alaska. I've also done countless 2-man treks of 10
days or more. Those backpacking trips do indeed slow me down. My temperment
after one of those trips has been described as "glacial". Very
process-oriented, methodical, relaxed, with a tendency to talk to myself
about everything. Isolation also seems to me to cultivate a sense of
optimism. I think I laugh more when isolated.
