Some info' on risk levels of shark attack. When I was an avid diver (some
30 years ago) I read a book about shark attacks that was a compilation of
over 1200 shark attacks on humans, from all over the world. They put all
the details in a computer and did statistical analysis. 95% of the
attacks were in shallow water or close to the surface, i.e. 5 feet of
depth, or less. Most were swimmers or waders. Quite a few of the latter,
actually.

Of the 5% that were deeper than 5 feet, 95% of those involved people who
spearing fish, or it was happening nearby them. (I stopped spearfishing
after reading this. I never really liked cleaning them anyway, so why
tempt fate?)

Out of all this, some proportion for the risk of a shark attack; their
analysis stated that there were deaths per year by bee attaack in the
United States alone, than deaths by shark attacks in the whole world. So
now when we go camping we can all carry beekeeper outfits. :-)
