Seems like discussions of GPSs generate more discussion about drybags than system performance --- one response noted. Wonder if there's a message there, in and of itself. I recently picked up the eTrex on a slight markdown sale, primarily because of its size (pack of cigarettes, to use a politically questionable analogy), the big display (for old eyes), and its claimed compliance with the "submersible" specs the industry uses these days. The little widget is "cartoony" in a lot of ways, but simple enough for a pilot to operate. The "manual" is very, very basic, but a more detailed, multi-page advanced manual is available for downloading. Haven't tested it out much yet, and haven't taken it out in the water, on the water, and under the water, but will --- without a bag --- to see if it lives up to expectations and specifications (must operate after submersion in one meter of water for 30 minutes.) Will write it up when I've given it a realistic testing, if anyone's interested.
