You should probably contact Joan as I will be away for about 3 weeks prior to that weekend and out of email contact. We can repost the details if anyone wants. Basically it is three days of paddling. Saturday to the Statue of Liberty (some side trips and a nite paddle possible) and dinner that night followed stayover at my place for out of towners (including tenting on the roof of a brownstone high above the muggers :-)). Sunday paddling around West Point and the Hudson Highlands (this is where the Hudson River resembles a fiord with 1,000 ft hills on both sides; the place has geographical and historical significance as well) followed by barbeque at the Volins and sleepover there for out of towners. Monday is paddling around City Island and some lighthouses (this is the western end of Long Island Sound and the backdoor marine access to NYC) plus dinner at a seafood restaurant for those who can linger. We also have storage of kayaks well covered. I have been asked for recommendations on places to stay. I suggest getting info from AAA. There are cheaper hotels in NYC. There is one right on Chambers St not far from the Downtown Boathouse (it is where some of the outrigger racers stay), but I forget its name. It might be a possibility. I won't have much time to help as I indicated above but do feel free to call me through about May 2nd to ask questions about this. As for T-shirts and logos, we could probably coordinate purchase of these and make them available for the Paddlewiser Mingle that weekend. I hope someone can take the lead on this, order up a bunch, sell them for a few bucks above costs to cover any shortfall in sales and, if a "profit" is made, donate it to the Downtown Boathouse and it free public kayak program. ralph diaz volinjo_at_juno.com wrote: > > Bill - If you're going to order a t-shirt, maybe several of us could > order together - I don't know if there'd be any kind of economy of scale, > since I don't think there are that many of us), but it might be easier to > get someone to make up a bunch of them rather than one. > > Incidentally - anyone who's interested in getting together in NY over > Memorial Day, please contact me or Ralph - or the list - so we have some > idea of who we should be looking out for. > > Joan > > In about one month, several paddlewisers will be coming to the NYC > > area to > > meet and paddle and I'd like to consider getting myself a paddlewise > > looking t shirt.
