 "PADA-Paddle Against Domestic Abuse"

  Greetings,
The article below was submitted by Joy Godsey.

This year during the month of October - Domestic Violence Awareness
Month
  - thousands of paddlers across the United States will participate
in "PADA -- Paddle Against Domestic Abuse." Anyone can be a part of this
national initiative by simply planning and implementing a paddle trip
during the month of October 2000. PADA is endorsed by the YWCA and the
National Coalition Against Domestic Violence and 100-percent of money
raised by participating individuals and groups will go to local, nonprofit
agencies that offer grassroots support to victimized women, men and their
children in the locations in which the trips take place.

Joy Godsey, executive director of PADA and avid kayaker, has developed a
website, http://www.riverwomen.com, that paddlers can visit to register for
participation or to learn more about this unique opportunity.

Upon registration, individuals or groups will be designated as official
PADAŽ participants. They will receive a complete trip planning package,
guidelines for obtaining individual sponsors, media campaign
recommendations, official sponsorship forms and sample letters, PADAŽ
T-shirt, PADAŽ boat decal; listing on the website as an official
 participant and more.

Participants in the PADAŽ project customize their own paddle trips. These
trips can be done solo or as a team -- white water or calm. The duration
can
be one hour, one day, a week or a month. Canoes, kayaks, shells, or
rowboats -- any human-powered watercraft is acceptable. Individuals and
groups are responsible for structuring their own local trips, selecting
their designated nonprofit domestic violence agencies, as well as
implementing their own fundraising, media and PR campaigns.

Well, that's the article. Thanks again for your help with this project!

  All the best,

  Joy Godsey
