Just a small correction to my last post: The "cruise ship" was in fact an Alaska ferry. Also, the report was written right after the incident, so it is fairly graphic, etc. I would rephrase things a bit differently now! In retrospect, we all did our best out on the sea during the crossing. Dave's kayak split its seams and he was taking on major water - not the kind of shape one would want to help tow. Also, there is no finger of blame being pointed toward anyone - we all made the decision to cross and all accept equal responsibility. If anyone has questions from a "want to know for lessons sake", I will answer only those kind of questions - either back channel or whatever.
