The "blurb" in the local news said, "The author of "Alaska Bear Tales" is in Juneau to promote his latest book. Larry Kaniut was a guest on KINY's Capital Chat this morning. He said he hopes the writing helps people be safe, but also respect the animal. His first book was authored in 1973 when he was working as an English teacher in Anchorage. It came about when a friend who had been mauled by a bear in Denali National Park and Preserve gave up his plans to write the book. He was approached by Alaska Northwest Publishing to write the book instead. His newest book is entitled "Danger Stalks The Land." Kaniut's first book, featuring a collection of some of the state's most famous bear/human encounters, is considered by many as "required reading" for people new to Alaska."
