on the Eastern shore of MD there are about 6 small town canoe/kayak races
each year. today is the first one this season.. 8 miles, 6.5 on a tidal
creek 1.5 on the Naticoke river. i got a call from Gil Thornton, one member
of a regular tandem canoe team who needs a partner beceause his brother
can't be there. so i agreed to paddle with him and we did a get-together
paddle a few days ago....4.5 miles on the Wicomico river. Gil paddled nice
and smooth, just as i've seen him in previous races. he prefers 20 strokes
per side before switching... his general shape is good, their team normally
paddles every other day year round and he works with weighs at a club. Gil's
brother also bikes and recently won two ribbons in the 75-80 class at the
local Senior Olympics.

So Gil, who's 80, and i will be giving it our best at noon.
tandem-novice-seniors. the conditions should be good because after a week of
rain, the weather seems to be in our favor. we're using my 18ft kevlar
Sundowner because i don't want to go swimming from his 17 ft Jenson.

this is going to be real fun! ... Joy Ride...

bye bye bliven
