the Dana Point area. There are facilities available to meet and some
excellent paddling opportunities at our door step.

Fred and All,

As long as you are a member, you are welcome to host just about any type of
event you would like for both of the Southern California kayaking clubs I am
a member of: California Kayak Friends and San Diego Kayak Club. These clubs
love for people to get involved and host events. I am personally hosting a
rescue practice and a three-day campout in May. Although anyone is perfectly
welcome to start a club, we are not short of clubs in Southern California.
All you have to do is get involved. I am involved and have dozens of
kayaking friends, and because of it I rarely get a chance to paddle alone.
Even today we had a wonderful event in Mission Bay with the San Diego Kayak
Club. It was an anniversary festival, and we had 45 members present for
informal classes, rolling and rescue practice, a swap meet, trying out each
other's kayaks, BBQ and potluck, socializing, and kayak polo. What more
could you ask for?

Duane:
My comments were not a condemnation of San Diego or CKF, just an
observation about clubs in LA and Orange County. I have in fact been in
contact with the club in San Diego and they are very friendly and
gracious. It just isn't within my ability to attend meetings so far away
given my schedule. Thus, it would be great if there was a similar
organization, Club, in Orange County.

With regards to CKF. I can't understand why you would be so
defensive. It's great that you are so actively involved and "Host" the
functions that you do. When I first moved to S. Ca. I contacted CKF to
try and get connected and found it a bit difficult as there was not a
scheduled and organized place of meeting such as the San Diego Club
has. Personal preference?
