It is so easy for a guru like Derrick Hutchinson to convince many of us that HEAVY MAKES STRONG. What heavy does is make hernias and bad backs worse and miserable carries across sandy beaches a torture, especially after a 15-20 mile paddle when all boats pick up an extra 10 pounds, anyway. Chris Duff might still be paddling his Romany if it had been vacuumed bagged. The Brits make some lovely boats and the Romany is certainly one of them but it is beyond me why the won't lighten up.
