Also the last I heard - I believe he's in an area where he can't be
reached, right now. Last I heard he was approach Nelson, which I think
is very close to the end of the trip.

The comment was that he should have been about Farewell Spit (last WEB
notice). From there to Nelson was done in a day by Paul Caffyn - plenty of
contact available in Nelson.

Unless he wants a holiday, the coast that takes most hire kayakers about 3
days to paddle (one way) would be done in a morning. I've managed to spend
9 days there on one trip, on another trip paddled the entire length of it
in a lazy day and a half, including poking into harbours and watching the
seals at Tonga Island for a while - a solo trip, late start the first day.
A trip (out and back) with a Swede and we rock hopped every rock possible
(I got the two she missed, she got the ones I missed), walked bits of
track, climbed islands, paddled out of the park at the north end, left
after 5 days when the wine ran out.

Taking Paul's trip, from Nelson, a day to French Pass, and I'll guess from
there, a day through to near the entrance to Queen Charlotte Sound and an
easy day into Picton - all weather permitting.

Contact could be made from the French Pass village and the next place Picton.

However there is no one to enter any of his commnets on the WEB until 10
April.

We're hoping he'll be speaking at the national sea kayak forum at Easter,
here in Christchurch, presumably replacing one of the scheduled evening
sessions.
