> Jackie or others who paddle with dogs, > > How did you teach your dogs to ride on your kayak? Happy Dog loves it when I put her PFD on 'cause she knows we're going for a ride, somewhere. She prefers to ride but panics sometimes in white water and bails. She definitely prefers the sea kayak so I take this boat sometimes on water I shouldn't... When the conditions are cold, she will consent to ride in the cockpit but only because that's the only way she can come along. Usually in Class 3 or better, she swims on the first rapid. After that, I can lay the boat completely on it's side and she'll hang in there amazingly. We did a river this weekend. I have a torn hip and she's having a problem with one eye. We both felt much, much better, until after our first night back home. Happy weighs 32 pounds. I recommend a good PFD, a spot on the boat that's theirs, and foam or something that aids their getting on and off the boat without getting tangled up in cables and gear, etc., and get good at bracing...
