Is >anyone using one of the units with street map features for driving >directions and using it on the water? Me too, I went with cheap and simple Garmin eTrex. Mostly because of its low price ($90 at Service Merchandise), submergibility, and size. I've not received my Data Cable yet, so I've manually entered a bunch of waypoints from my Street Atlas 6.0 software, mostly places where I have trouble remembering to get into the correct lane to turn off in time. It is minimal but works just fine. It claims about 30ft accuracy whenever I'm outdoors. Sits quite stable on my dash because of the soft rubber coating on the battery holder area, and the arrow is visible with a quick glance. Haven't used it on the 'yak yet. Reminds me of Star Trek, this little tiny item that tells you exactly where you are and where the place you want to go is, anywhere in the world, marvelous! -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dave Flory, San Jose, CA. daflory_at_pacbell.net ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Speak softly and study Aikido, then you won't need a big stick. ©2000 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - All postings copyright the author and not to be reproduced outside PaddleWise without author's permission Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.paddlewise.net/ ***************************************************************************Received on Mon May 08 2000 - 13:10:35 PDT
