  I have the ICOM M1 with the NiCads.  The batteries are a hassle, but it's
held up to my frequent swims and submersions without any problems.  The
small size is very nice, but I don't know how it compares to the Standard
350.  One requirement for my next VHF will be support for alkaline batteries
- long trips can easily outlast regular rechargeable batteries.
