Last fall I mentioned a couple of my favorite local races. My favorite spring race is this weekend. These races are put on by the Cape Ann Rowing club and are more fun than serious. Plus they usually have wonderful homemade clam chowder at the finish line. Last years Tshirts were great, dark green with a map of the course in blue and gold on the front. The race is about 6 miles in an extremely pretty location, probably my favorite paddling spot between Boston and Maine. Registration will start at 8:00 am and finish at 9:30 am. The first heat should start at approx. 10:00 am The registration location is the Essex Town Landing near the Essex Shipbuilding Museum and ERBA. The start is in heats, fixed seat single rower rowing craft go first, then fixed multi-seat rowing craft, then canoes and the womens kayaks, then mens sea kayaks, then surf skiis and finally the sliding seat rowing craft. Race time is such that we should be off the water before many motorboats are out. Last year the most memorable craft was a guy who rowed a 6 or 8 foot long plywood rowboat, with a flat front (imagine rowing a shoe box). Should anyone from the list show up I'll be paddling a black surf ski with blue letters on the side. kirk *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - All postings copyright the author and not to be reproduced outside PaddleWise without author's permission Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.paddlewise.net/ ***************************************************************************Received on Fri May 12 2000 - 06:11:57 PDT
