Since I also use it sailing, the auto option is nice. One of the most common ways to end up in the water sailing is to get knocked off the boat...often by the boom. That can mean getting knocked out on the way over, hence autoinflate. The SOS life jacket's autoinflate can be turned off easily for kayaking use.
