I have found two books on the subject of Eskimo Rolling: Derek Hutchensons ESKIMO ROLLING and THE BOMBPROOF ROLL by Paul Dutky. I only want to buy one. Anyone read either or both who can provide a recomendation/review? P.S. I have Hutchenson's COMPLETE BOOK OF SEA KAYAKING and found the illustrations in the rolling chapter to be somewhat unclear. As for my background/qualifications I am currently going into week three of a six session pool rolling class (at the Yonkers, NY YMCA for those of you familiar with this perenial class taught by Andy L.) and I paddled a yak for the first time yesterday. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - All postings copyright the author and not to be reproduced outside PaddleWise without author's permission Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.paddlewise.net/ ***************************************************************************

There's also a great video on rolling called, "Grace Under Pressure". Sometimes actually watching roll techniques helps more than simply reading about it. This site describes several different rolls. How about: Dutky's is better, but Hutchenson's more complete? Dutky's has only a few rolls in it, but they are much better explained and his illustrations are easier to follow. Hutchenson's has more variations on rolls and more anecdotal stuff about rolling, making it an interesting read. However, some of his explanations are difficult to comprehend and his illustrations can be confusing. I'd say get Dutky's to learn how to roll and get Hutchenson's to extend your rolling repertoire. Dutky's book is the way to go first.
