Thanks for the tip. What town is NE Small Craft in? As for the Newport
museums, yes, they are really a lot of fun. Although I enjoy the one out on
the peninsula in Newport itself, the Herreshoff Museum (which I believe is
in Bristol) is even more interesting. Newport is a great area to visit,
although IMO the town made some really bad planning errors some years ago
and the whole area has gone down hill since then. But that's a subject for
another day. BTW, do they still have the Sunday picnics at Castle Hill?
They used to have jazz bands on the lawn. I remember watching the J-Boats
race from there 10 or 12 years ago. Anyway, thanks again, and I'll
definitely stop in that store, if I can find it.

Rowley Mass, on route 1 just north of route 133.

Castle Hill is owned by the Trustees of Reservations there's an event
schedule at http://www.thetrustees.org The picnic concerts are scheduled
for thursday nights. For car buffs there's a concours auto show there in
the summer that is supposed to be spectacular.

If you make it to Castle Hill, stand on the steps and look down the grand
allee, on a clear day you'll find the Isle of Shoals framed in the trees
as you look down the lawn.

There's a nice beach in front of Castle hill. There's also a sandbar that
the local boaters picnic on about 150 yards offshore, the sandbar is
under water at high tide.

To get there you can launch in Ipswich, the public landing charges, I
still hold a grudge for being charged something like $5 a kayak and being
told I could only launch from the boat ramp, not from the dock. Because
the "dock" was for loading and unloading, they wouldn't let me carry the
boats down onto the dock to launch....

There's a small canoe/kayak "launch" site hidden across the way that I
can give directions to if anyone wants to contact me directly, it's free
and muddy at lower tides. From either launch it's a mile or two to
the beach. It's a paddle my parents regularly did with 2 kids in the
canoe - easy enough for beginners.

The shop is just north of route 133 in Rowley Mass, which is
a couple towns north of Cape Ann (depending on who is defining what
towns are in Cape Ann).

While there don't miss stopping across the street at Kathy's Country
Kitchen. Amazing breakfasts, fresh baked bread and marvelous scones -
mmmm, scones.

My only gripe with that shop is there are no prices on any of the boats.
Maybe that's a good thing for those into haggling.

On the positive side it's one of the few shops, that I know of, that
takes trade ins. There seem to be at least a dozen used boats each time I
stop in.

If anyone has been in lately did they get the new Walden Paddler outrigger
canoes? Joel said he was ordering a fair number of them(30?) for this season.
