I did some extensive research a while back: 1. I could not find any state which did not give full interchange = (courtesy) credit if you were registered in another state. This did not = hold for some local lakes which had special requirements. 2. California DOES NOT REQUIRE REGISTRATION of watercraft which are = human powered under 21 feet (I am going from memory on the exact length = but it involved the 20s). 3. Texas does not require registration of human powered watercraft with = some local exceptions. For instance, Lake Worth at Ft Worth has a limit = of 16 ft with no registration. I asked some of the local water police = and one said "very officially" that 16 ft was the limit. His partner = said (after the other had gone into the office) we don't measure to see = if your 16' 6" kayak is 16' ft or not, but the rule was 16'. He said = some people (said very softly) are sticklers for the rule (and smiled). 4. Ohio charges $20 for 3 years and you get permanent numbers (which you = have to buy) and they must be affixed to the bow on both sides. All = boats must be registered in Ohio. No exceptions. All of the other sites = and a boating site (which I forget) talked about the courtesy = interchange. Sort of like the car license interchange policy. If you = set up residence, then you might have to register in your new state = after 6 months. 5. I checked Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, California, Arizona, Penn., and = decided my sample was big enough. 6. YMMV Hope this helps. =3D^..^=3D --Mel-- Mel Lammers E-Mail: mslammers_at_earthlink.net Home Page: http://melskayakpage.homestead.com [demime 0.92b removed an attachment of type text/x-vcard which had a name of Mel Lammers.vcf] *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - All postings copyright the author and not to be reproduced outside PaddleWise without author's permission Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.paddlewise.net/ ***************************************************************************
