As far as I remember Bungee is actually Bunji and has it's origins during
the British occupation of India.

My understanding was that Bun-Gee was a company name that made shock cords.
I think I bought some Bun-Gee brand shock cords about 15 years ago.  The two
terms have always been interchangeable in places I've been.
