[Paddlewise] Camera Boxes

I have had a Pelican box for several years and have used it on rafting/WW
kayaking trips. It is a great product- however it is pretty bulky and I think
it would be difficult to use on the water in a solo sea kayak. Mine is an
intermediate size- about what you would need for a telephoto and good SLR. It
is easy to access, but in a sea kayak you would risk dumping the contents
overboard unless the conditions were very calm. The shape of the box would
make it difficult to securely attach it on the deck and still be accessible,
and it would not be very comfortable or secure in the cockpit under your
skirt. I am resigning myself to a small waterproof point and shoot camera
rather than my full size Nikon for shooting from my sea kayak. If your
objective is to safeguard your equipment to use on shore I can highly
recommend the Pelican case.
