Robert Cline asked about what belongs in a expedition boat repair kit. Bill Hansen replied with this list: Denzo tape duct tape 18 gauge steel wire two wire clamps two small hose clamps about 50 feet of strong string an epoxy "ding stick" which will set up in cold/wet conditions a small kit of 6 oz glass cloth, epoxy & catalyst, latex gloves etc sailmakers' needles, a little plastic "pusher" for the needles, dental floss as the "thread" a cheap imitaion of a "Leatherman" multi-purpose tool hacksaw blade broken in half good sharp knife I curious what others would add to the list. I have not paddled my kayak in wilderness where my survival would depend on my being able to fix forseeable damage to my boat. When I paddled into the BWCAW in canoes I was young invulnerable and able to repair the damage that I did to one boat with pine pitch and birch bark. As a rudder addicted kayaker I would add a spare rudder cable and repair hardware. I wonder as I write if my Kelty Triptease guyline would work as an emergency rudder cable. I would also add a small vice grip pliers. Questions: How much 6 ox. glass cloth and resin etc is a small kit? 2 square feet, 1 sq. yard? Resin to fill the weave or enough for multiple coats? Other hardware, stainless steel nuts and bolts, foot pedal components? How much stuff is enough?
