Victoria had merry blue eyes, a ready smile, an easy laugh, and masses of enthusiasm. She was completely unpretentious, though she was one tough paddler - certainly a better "man" than I in the cockpit, with her routine fifty-mile days. I smile fondly as I remember learning from her that even on her remote passages, where she might not see anyone else for days on end, she carried henna hair dye and mascara - and used them. I hadn't talked to Victoria for several years, and so was unaware that she had been ill. The world at large, and the paddling world in particular, is a poorer place for her passing.
