Being a happy CD Caribou/Feathercraft Khatsalano paddler (and now thinking about adding a Betsie Bay Recluse to the little fleet), I would certainly recommend trying out a 'bou. I'm very enthusiastic about the 'bou - some would even call me a *Caribou snob* (hi Michael! hi Gerald! ;-)), but I really do like this boat, and think it may be just right for Phares' river meanderings. I sometimes enjoy paddling the small, flat coastal rivers near me, and the easy maneuverability of the 'bou is a joy in these circumstances, while not sacrificing speed and rough water handling in conditions where it's wanted/needed. Melissa ps: I've not seen any Betsie Bay boats out where I live, and there's not much in the way of very specific information on their web site (no line drawings showing chine configurations, rocker, etc.). Before possibly taking a trip accross the country to visit them in MI, I'd be very interested in the comments of people who regularly paddle, or have paddled any of their boats.
