My 19'6" boat I carry under my arm or on my shoulder, it's narrow enough I can wrap my arm around it. At 28 (or less) pounds, it's also quite light. Winds are a challenge, you turn into a big weathervane... For winds it's nice to have open space and then walk a bit sideways. > Im not sure my 20 foot > looksha will be easy to handle on a shoulder carry. Does this take much > practice. A little, not too much. The biggest trick is getting it to your shoulder. Walking from one end might work. I get away with a quick hoist with my offside arm and then cradle it with my onside arm as it goes to my shoulder. > How do you shift sides without putting the Kayak down. Drop your head forward, lower the back end of the kayak and roll it across behind your neck. This is easier and less painful than it sounds. I usually rest the "keel" of the kayak near my neck and not near my shoulder.
