Anybody out there ever tear an intercostal muscle? If so, what helped,
what didn't help, and did you ever get better? Is there hope for paddling
again (doctor says no-no, for now)? Is it ok to paddle if it doesn't hurt
while I'm doing it?

It's been a month since I injured it (while paddling) by (a) using a
different style paddle -- for the first time -- for an extended period, and
(b) working harder than usual while paddling (because using an
unfamiliar instrument). The first day or two it felt like whiplash in the
whole upper right torso. Now, it's a real soreness activated by certain
movements and deep breaths. I've just started chiropractic and
ultrasound treatment.

I was looking forward to going to the Bean kayak symposium -- and still
am -- but was in particular looking forward to trying out boats, of
course....
