Before this gets out of hand, no one on PaddleWise or otherwise should
be fully identified in the way Kasia was. Nor should we even engage in
open forum speculation about a person's existence or not unless some
real evidence came up and was germane.

People like me and Matt Broze (to name a few of us) are more public
figures and our ID is in our SIG and other places. It's because we are
considered sources of information and freely give it and are available.
But no one else should be fully IDed unless they wish to do so
themselves.

As for public speculation about the existence of someone, it should not
be done without darn good evidence. We had a case years ago of someone
posting something to the nyckayaker listserve that was sexually
provocative, said in the voice of a woman inviting males to..well do
certain things. But email to the address got returned as undeliverable
and when one or two of us found that out, we reported THAT to the list.
In that case it was clearly someone being bogus and provocative. I knew
exactly who it was because I know him well but I didn't "out" him or
confront him. I just let it go as his being sophomoric once again.

There were a zillion reasons why Kasia may have desisted from further
statement of her position regarding commando camping, reasons that I
would have surmised well before making a leap of logic to say that she
was bogus. My first thought was exactly the one she now stated...i.e.
she had had enough. But she could have been off on a job assignment or
sick or on vacation or abducted by aliens.

I think that Kasia's take regarding PaddleWise is wrong but I certainly
can understand why she feels that way especially after the public
speculation about her existence followed by the full-scale revelation of
her particulars in terms of employment, phone number, etc.

Kasia, apologies. I think I am speaking for a lot of us.

Kasia must decide for herself whether she wishes to stay on the
listserve or not. I think it is worth sticking around...there are a lot
of positive things to learn from messages and discussions that make the
life of any paddler on the water wiser, safer and more enjoyable.
